Windows-based Android emulator that can play APK apps.
MuMu App Player is a freeware Android emulator that was created by NetEase, a company based in China that specializes in mobile gaming.
The main layout of the application isn't too different from other Android emulators like BlueStacks or GameLoop, however its functionality is lacking a little bit when compared to the competition.
Getting started with a Google account
With that said, the application installs without too much trouble and once started, you can sign in with your Google account to access the Google Play app store. The main screen provides shortcuts to system apps, a browser and the app center. In our test, the App Center wasn't functioning but access to the Google Play store was possible.
The main layout of the operating system that MuMu App Player is emulating is a tabbed interface which allows you to easily switch between different apps, making multitasking pretty easy.
Keyboard, mouse and game controller
The program has a few different options in its interface such as enabling the keyboard, activating a gaming controller, changing volume settings, sideload APK files and taking screenshots. MuMu can also be toggled between landscape and portrait mode here.
In terms of settings, this is where we came across a little bit of trouble as the menu system was constantly crashing. If you do get it to work, you're able to apply some advanced settings here such as disk cleaning, setting a custom IMEI number and the option to spoof your brand and model in order to trick certain apps to function on the device.
The graphics settings are dependent on using OpenGL 2.0 while CPU emulation takes advantage of Intel's VT-x and AMD-V.
All in all, this Android app player is an interesting choice and does function for the most part. However accessing settings was a chore and the ability to access the App center was not possible, though Google Play was fully functional and so is accessing a Google account.
